Amniocentesis

This is a test that involves the removal of fluid (about 16 ml.) from the pregnancy sac. This is sent to a specialised laboratory for PCR (test that can exclude Downs Syndrome within 4 days) and the full chromosome analysis after 3½ weeks. This test carries a low miscarriage risk (less than 0.5%) as it is performed under ultrasound.

Antenatal Screening

Antenatal Screening for neural tube defects, eg., Spina Bifida or Downs Syndrome is offered. If the scan findings suggest an increased risk of fetal abnormality, then an Amniocentesis is offered.

. Antenatal Care

Facilities are available for routine antenatal care, ultrasound examination of the foetus during pregnancy and a fetal cardio topography. However, the Centre does not undertake to conduct deliveries.
